Local students in the Murrumbidgee region can now apply for placement opportunities through our Peer Work Placement Program, designed to support people with lived and living experience of mental health, suicide, or alcohol and other drug challenges to build a career in Peer Work.

For many Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work students in our region, lack of suitable placements has prevented them from completing their qualification and entering the workforce.

The Murrumbidgee Peer Work Placement Program, an initiative of the Murrumbidgee Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Alliance, brings together local service providers to create supported, meaningful placement pathways.

The program provides hands‑on experience across diverse service settings, professional supervision, peer mentoring and group reflection sessions, helping participants enter the peer workforce feeling confident and supported.

Students can choose to specialise in mental health, alcohol and other drugs, or First Nations Peer Work, aligning with their lived experience, identity, and career aspirations.

With demand for Peer Workers rapidly increasing across regional Australia, we hope that this program will strengthen and grow our local lived and living experience workforce.

Applications are now open for students enrolled in the Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work, or those with a lived/living experience of alcohol and other drug challenges looking to start a career in Peer Work.

Find out more or apply on our Peer Work Placement Program page or contact us on mmhdaa@gph.org.au for more information.
